Disc Brake Kits: A Project Finally Coming to Life

I’m excited to share that the disc brake kits I’ve been working on for a while are finally entering production. In my opinion, every air-cooled VW should be equipped with a quality set of brakes for both safety and drivability on today’s roads.

Right now, we have five cars in the shop that are in need of brake upgrades. These include 4 and 5-lug Beetles, an early split bus, and a bay window van, giving us a great variety of models to design from.

Our Goals:

1. Affordability: This is always a priority for VW owners.
2. Sustainability: By using pads and rotors from common OEMs, we aim to make maintenance easier and more cost-effective.
3. Weight: Many of the existing "Wide 5" kits are quite heavy. I believe we can significantly improve on this.
4. Zero Offset: Achieving zero to minimal offset will be challenging due to the limitations of the 5-bolt lug patterns, but it’s a key priority.
5. Calipers: The calipers will require more work than the currently available rotors. Our main focus will be on 4-piston calipers with dust seals that fit "Wide 5" pattern rotors for both buses and bugs.
